Half the problem is the expectation of government salvation. Why people sit around and wait to be saved by an inefficient federal government, I will never understand.

People in other countries don't expect the government to save them from catastrophe. They just pick up the pieces and start over. If the government assists them, well that's just a bonus.

However, considering what I personally pay to the federal government every year in taxes, I find FEMA's ineptitude beyond appalling.

Thanks for your comments Ashley!! But the fact is that its government's responsibility to take leadership role in these situations. The people pay their taxes for some reason!! This is where the tax money should be spent, not on wars all arond the globe!!
